Video 6: Project Implementation Plan

Project Implementation Plan

This section of your application will detail how the project will be implemented by identifying resources needed for your project, describing how each milestone activity will be completed, as well as how you plan to recruit and retain project participants.

Your implementation plan will also address establishing a plan for overcoming challenges that may arise during implementation, which is also known as a contingency plan. This plan will illustrate how you will navigate these situations with minimal impact to your implementation.

  • Hello and welcome to the 2025 ANA Pre-Application Training. For this video, we'll be discussing your project implementation plan.
  • The project implementation plan contains three elements in the NOFO and is a big chunk of your application. In this section, you'll be providing a detailed plan to achieve each objective. You'll discuss contingency plans, any obstacles that could impede the progress of your project, and then you will also identify resources, staff, or partners who will ensure that the project's positive outcomes are achieved.
  • To start by addressing this section, you'll want to complete a narrative summary of your objective work plan. For this section, you'll use your completed OWP as a guide and in narrative format provide additional detail and information for each of your activities in the OWP. What's very important for this section is to ensure that both the implementation plan and the OWP are in alignment, so please speak to every activity that's included in your OWP and provide a narrative summary for those activities.
  • Here's an example of what this could look like. In this example, you'll see that they go into much more detail and information for each of the activities in that OWP. Please ensure that you're comprehensive and you address all of the activities so that the leader can connect your implementation plan to your OWP and that they are in alignment.
  • Continuing with the section, you'll want to also discuss your contingency plan. A contingency plan is a plan for potential obstacles and challenges that may take place throughout your project implementation. All projects may experience some challenge at some point, so it'll be important to show the reader that you have a plan in place to address these challenges. Identify things that most likely may occur and then have a backup plan to address them. Please keep in mind when you are creating this part of your implementation plan. Your contingency plan is outside of your everyday policies and operating procedures.
  • Some possible contingencies to consider may include staffing turnover, or loss of partnerships if you have partners, travel-related challenges, speak to things that may occur to your project and are very specific for your community.
  • When you're putting it all together, it may be helpful to have a table such as this. In this table, you'll see that we list both the challenges and then also your proposed solutions to those challenges.
  • For this activity, we're going to utilize a table where you can input your obstacles and challenges, and then also provide a plan should those obstacles take place during your project. Describe the solutions that are common to your challenges.
  • The last part of the project implementation plan is the staffing structure where you can go into more detail about staff that are going to be involved with your project. What may be helpful for this section is to provide an organizational chart as well. This will show ANA where your project falls within your larger organization. And with your organizational chart, please have it connect to your tribal council or your board of directors showing the overall hierarchy for this project and your organization.
  • Lastly, when you are completing this section, you'll also want to identify and determine resources and/or partners that are necessary for your project implementation if applicable. Describe how they benefit the project, the relevance to the overall project, what's their role in the day-to-day activities, and how are they supporting your project. Also, it may be helpful to identify if you're still in need of obtaining those resources or partners.
  • For the last activity for this section, we're going to complete a table that will help you build out the identifying resources section of your implementation plan. In this table, identify all resources, and this can be internal and external, the resources that are still needed and that you have yet to obtain, and then identify the relevance to the project.
